EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often referred to as EFT tapping or EFT Energy, is an alternative therapy for stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, anger, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and more. By tapping energy meridians from traditional acupressure the body helps balance energy and reduce physical and emotional pain. Used either together with an EFT practitioner for treatment or learn the technique themselves.

EFT

EFT works by tapping acupressure points (meridian points), which are areas of the body through which energy flows. Tapping these meridian points with the fingertips restores the balance of energy to resolve physical and emotional issues and at the same time it draws attention to the body and breathing, enabling to re-wire limiting beliefs.
You tap primarily on the upper body and face, with your fingertips in a significant sequence, while breathing deeply and giving your subconscious a verbal message. Over time, the tapping becomes associated with the feeling of calm from the conscious breathing, and it helps trigger the shift to a more relaxed state. So EFT becomes more effective in calming yourself the more often you use it, like any other mindfulness practice.

EFFICIENT METHOD

Research shows that EFT is effective in calming the nervous system, and that tapping the acupressure points can be used as an efficient treatment for a number of conditions, including stress, anxiety, depression, phobias, and PTSD. It may also be beneficial preventively, prior for example an event that could cause stress or anxiety.
EFT, also known as tapping or psychological acupressure, was developed  in the 1990s by Gary Craig. He, on his hand, was inspired by Dr Roger Callahan who started with TFT (Thought Field Therapy) in the early 1980’s. In statistics from Dr. Callahan approx 80 % of his clients reduced anxiety, stress or pain by using his method. TFT since 2016 an evidenced based practice that is rated by the US department of health.

EFT WITH KIDS

 -initiate calm and help to
process emotions

How can you de-stress a weary or anxious child with a short attention span? Increase their self love, soften their inner critic or maybe ease into a good nights sleep?

Calming deep breathing is one of the best tools there is. However, sometimes maybe you not only want to calm down (if that even is possible) but also shift or alter underlying limiting beliefs. Negative wording that might come up in one's mind. And that's where EFT can come to play a part.

EFT anchors the breathing and speaks to the subconscious, and we can use phrases that almost serve as an antidote to a thought or belief that doesn't serve you. Over time, the tapping becomes associated with the feeling of calm from the conscious breathing, and it helps trigger the shift to a more relaxed state. EFT can become even more effective in calming yourself the more often you use it, like any other mindfulness practice, and you can learn it yourself - or your child can.
This is not hocus pocus, its precursor TFT (Thought Field Therapy) is an evidence based practice rated by the US department of Health.

When tapping with kids I usually do it with kids plus parents at the same time, but focusing on the kids' challenge. The parent is showing its participation and interest together with their child, but they are also learning how to do this by themselves. We build up the session a bit more playful than with solely grown ups and we end with a cosy meditation where the parent and kid lie next to each other.
